  • Ethiopia is the second most populated country in Africa.  Its Christian roots are deep!  Ethiopia was the first major empire in the world to officially adopt Christianity as the state religion (fourth century).
  • Ethiopia is the seventh poorest country in the world according to the UN’s Human Development Index.  80% of its people live below the poverty level.
  • Agriculture accounts for 81% of Ethiopia’s GDP. Raising of livestock and production of cereal crops are th emain livelihoods.
  • Ethiopia has significant health problems caused by communicable diseases, poor sanitation, contaminated water and malnutrition. In the midst of these health challenges, there is only 1 doctor per 100,000 people.
